Real-Time Fax Over IP Support
Brooktrout intelligent fax platforms offer the ultimate in flexibility,
offering support for both IP and PSTN network connectivity. For IP
network connectivity, the TR1034™ digital T1/E1 offers an additional
Ethernet interface and supports real-time fax over IP via the T.38
protocol and SIP call control. Brooktrout’s TR1034 has been
tested with fax over IP equipment from industry leading providers,
including Cisco T.38 gateways, to ensure interoperability.
Security
Brooktrout Technology fax boards are designed for fax and fax only,
unlike competitive fax boards that are dual-purpose modems that
support V.90 or V.92, two protocols with data exchange capability,
in addition to the T.30 fax protocol.
Brooktrout intelligent fax boards support only T.30 and T.38 fax protocols.
T.30 is a PSTN based protocol and T.38 is an IP-based protocol that
closely inter-works with T.30. Installing a Brooktrout intelligent
fax board in your network fax server poses no threat whatsoever to
your network security. It would be as if someone were trying to break
into your network through a fax machine. Even if a malicious packet
was to penetrate the firewall, Brooktrout’s T.30 and T.38 protocol
implementations only allow for the transfer of T.4 and T.6 fax images,
and not data. A nonstandard fax or non-fax packet will be ignored by
the Brooktrout T.38 implementation.
Competitive fax modems, on the other hand, are in reality data modem
cards that also perform onboard fax processing support with either
the V.90 and V.92 protocols, which have data exchange capability. The
fact that a data modem allows the transfer of data, and not just fax
images like a Brooktrout intelligent fax board, makes a network extremely
susceptible to security breaches by would be hackers.
Technology Expansion Capability
The Technology Expansion Capability (TEC) allows customers to increase
the feature set on their TR1034 fractional T1/E1 intelligent fax
boards through the simple process of downloading and installing
a software license key. With TEC customers can easily and efficiently
increase the channel densities on their new or existing TR1034
intelligent fax board without purchasing additional hardware or
even opening up their fax server.

series of intelligent fax boards from Brooktrout Technology provides
organizations with new and faster V.34 fax capabilities. V.34 fax
(33.6Kbps) can not only send fax data over twice the speed of V.17
fax (14.4Kbps) , but also reduces call setup and session-management
time by one-third. The result is faster fax transmission time which
results in reduced long distance phone charges and a return on
investment in less than one year.
Robust and Reliable T.30 Protocol

And as a result of Brooktrout’s long history in fax, Brooktrout
has developed the industry leading T.30 fax protocol implementation,
which is able to connect to virtually every fax machine available on
the market today. Competitive fax modems, on the other hand, purchase
their T.30 from third party software companies with relatively little
fax expertise.
Furthermore, because Brooktrout develops it’s own T.30 protocol,
it can easily adapt and modify it’s own T.30 to handle fax machines
that have problematic T.30 implementations. Brooktrout’s continuous
refining of it’s T.30 protocol also makes it better suited to
handle poor PSTN phone line conditions, ensuring the fax always goes
through. Our competition cannot do this, and because of this, competitive
fax modems simply cannot connect to as many fax machines as Brooktrout.
This means a greater number of dropped or incomplete fax transmissions.
The end result is a higher fax completion rate than competitive fax
modems that outsource their T.30 protocol development.
Highest Image Resolution Available
Brooktrout’s TR1034 series intelligent fax boards
supports up to 1200 X 1200 image resolution, the highest image resolution
available by any fax board today. Other fax boards support up to 600
X 600 resolution, half of the TR1034 series. Higher fax resolution
means cleaner, crisper fax images are sent and received verses what
competitive fax products can send. Competitive products with lower
image resolution support often send and receive images that are grainy
and have high black and white pixel transitions, resulting in faxes
containing illegible text and graphics.
